For teachers
Is DiscoverChinaTEFL free for teachers?
Yes, completely. Browsing jobs, creating a profile, applying, messaging schools, and uploading documents are all free, and always will be. Schools pay to post listings — teachers never pay anything.
How do I know a listing is legitimate?
Every listing must show salary, Z-visa sponsorship, and housing details before it goes live — vague ads aren't accepted. If a listing still looks misleading, unsafe, or expired, you can report it from the support page and we'll review it.
Visas and documents
How does Z-visa sponsorship work?
The Z-visa is China's work visa, and you can't apply for it alone — your school must sponsor you. After you accept an offer, the school applies for a Work Permit Notice on your behalf, you use that notice to get your Z-visa at a Chinese consulate in your home country, and after arrival the school converts it into a Residence Permit. What happens to documents I upload?
Documents like passports, degrees, TEFL certificates, and background checks are stored privately — they are never public job-board content. They're used to show your profile readiness and are only shared with a school through an authorized application or document-request flow. To have a document removed, email support@discoverchinatefl.com. More in our privacy policy.
For schools and recruiters
How are schools billed?
There's no subscription. Schools buy tokens and spend them per action: posting a listing costs 5 tokens, featuring one costs 3, and refreshing one costs 2. Your first listing is free, and your first token purchase is doubled. Token packs start at $20 — see pricing for the full breakdown. Payments are processed securely by Stripe.
What do listings have to include?
